Richard Baldwin Motorhomes was created in 1998 after the aforenamed sold his previous heavy haulage business and had started to buy and sell the odd motorhome here and there. Having thoroughly enjoyed the experience, being as it was a complete change from his previous role, Richard decided that his future lay in the retail motorhome business.
At the start, Richard sold both caravans and motorhomes, but before long he knew that it was in motorhomes alone that he
would make his mark.
The business started in a modest sized branch on Wakefield
Road in Copley, Halifax. We still occupy that site today, only now
this is used as our dedicated Service Centre.
As the business took off, it became clear that we would soon outgrow those early sales premises and plans were drawn to
build from scratch, the super new showrooms and showgrounds that we occupy today.
Not content with starting and growing the business, Richard was fully hands on with the new build and carried out a vast amount of the excavation and building works himself. Located just a quarter of a mile along the road from the original site, the staff witnessed the new showrooms grow from the ground up and before long they were moved over to enjoy their new first class surroundings.
The business went from strength to strength and with an ever increasing reputation, came the interest of the UK’s leading manufacturers. If endorsements were needed, then the fact that we hold the franchises for all these marques would surely suffice. Add to this our industry recognised awards, countless commendations from our customers and a laudable amount of repeat custom, then it is easy to see how we have established ourselves as not only one of the North’s leading motorhome dealers, but also one of the most respected and renowned motorhome dealers throughout the whole of the UK.
After some ten years at the helm, with the help of some great staff along the way, Richard came to realise that the business needed strengthening at a senior level and he set about scouring the market place for an industry leader who could come and join the business to take it on to the next level.
In June 2008, after more than a little persuasion, Richard managed to secure the services of Gary Morgan to join the team as Managing Director and shareholder of the business. Gary had previously worked as a Director of Marquis Motorhomes, part of the Auto-Sleepers Group and in his nearly twenty years experience in the industry, had amassed a wealth of knowledge and expertise in many fields from sales and marketing, to finance and business development.
Since his arrival, Gary has put to use all his past experience, his knowledge gleaned from his Honours Degree in Business Studies and his hard work and dedication, to really move the business forward. And despite the intensely difficult times that the business and the marketplace have had to endure during Gary’s first year of office, Richard, Gary and their fantastic team are still on track to deliver on a carefully considered and prudent business plan for the future.
Today, the business continues to deliver an excellent service to our customers and recently underwent the slightly overdue transition from a Sole Trader Operation to a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), thus fully integrating Gary into the business.
We provide a great selection of new motorhomes from the best of the British manufacturers such as Auto-Trail, Autocruise, Elddis and Romahome as well as a super choice of quality used motorhomes. Boats, cars, caravans and motorhomes are all readily taken in part exchange and we offer a number of great funding options from the country’s leading finance houses.
